Early A-Wedges: Dave’s 3
I went to visit David Schmidt, who has a small collection of custom built guitars and 3 of Kevin's earliest an perhaps most important historical builds-- The Wooden Roundback, the Calico Balmoral, and the first Quilted Maple A-wedge. All the guitars were built in the 90's while Kevin was inventing some of the processes and ideas that he uses today. I visited Mr. Schmidt, in response to a modification that he wanted.

KC-40
Introducing the all new KC-40 guitar, featuring a larger uperbout, 4 1/2" body, Indian rosewood or mahogony back and sides, and spruce or cedar top.
Cutaways
This is one of the tightest cutaway radius offered by any luthier. because of the difficulty and process involved with bending wood at this radius, never mind woods like ziricote, cocobolo, ebony, brazilian and the other "crack-woods" Kevin has an up-charge of $300.
Double Neck
"They chose a mastergrade redwood top, Mastergrade laced cocobolo back and ziricote sides, 2 lightwheight 7-string Korina Necks with Madagascar Rosewood Fretboards, and a modified forward X-brace reinforced with the same material that helicopter blades are made of, and 2 L.R. Baggs iMix systems."
Redesigning the acoustic guitar
The 3 year wait is over, Kevin's taking new orders! He's moved his shop and all his equipment from Winsted to Torrington, and is committed to his customers on a full time basis. All his private comissions have been completed and he is ready for new orders
About
Being the man that fixed broken, swelling, sinking, and/or cracking guitars, Kevin had lots of ideas for keeping them together. "Measure twice, cut once", has been his philosophy in regards to not only construction and wood choice, but in the fundamentals of design. Kevin's expertise is specific to the build at hand, and his knowledge and skill are to the degree that he has one of his A-Wedge's entirely out of spalted maple, it sounds good, and it's absolutely solid even after 5 years of abuse from it's touring owner.
